About us

It all began with a simple idea fueled by a deep passion for horses.  At Hawkez Haven, we pride ourselves on personal attention and dedication to every horse. Our approach is rooted in kindness, patience, and understanding, ensuring that everything we do reflects our commitment to giving horses a second chance at life.

From a young age, I was completely horse-mad. Over the years, this passion for horses grew into a deeper understanding of their struggles. Discovering many unwanted, neglected, and abandoned horses, especially Thoroughbreds, inspired the creation of Hawkez Haven. These horses often suffered from misunderstanding and abuse.

Our story

After several years focused on raising a family, I decided to purchase a pinto Warmblood. Wanting him to have a paddock companion, we began searching for another horse—ideally one that could be a project. That’s when we found Rip.

At six years old, Rip was advertised as the perfect match. But when he arrived, it was clear he had been severely neglected. He was underweight, had no muscle tone, and suffered from hair loss and skin infections such as rain scald. He also had a tailbone infection, poor dental condition, overgrown feet, and a deep mistrust of humans—flinching in fear at anything that resembled a whip.

With patience, proper care, and consistent love, Rip began to heal. Within five months, he was transformed—almost unrecognizable from the frightened, frail horse that had first stepped off the float. His strength returned, his coat gleamed, and his spirit began to shine through.

Tragically, about a year later, our Warmblood passed away. In that difficult time, Rip helped us heal just as much as we had helped him. Our connection deepened, and we knew without question that he would remain a permanent part of our family.

Rip’s story is a reminder that with kindness, patience, and understanding, even the most broken horses can learn to trust again. Every horse deserves a second chance.

Our approach to rehabilitation

At Hawkez Haven, building confidence, trust, and forming a bond is the most important part of every rescue’s journey. When a new horse arrives, our first goal is to connect with them on a ground level — to understand each other before any training begins.

Every horse deserves the chance to rebuild their confidence and learn that humans can be kind, patient, and safe. Through gentle groundwork and mutual respect, that trust begins to grow, and before long, a true bond forms.

We believe that rushing to “fix” a horse only deepens their fear or confusion. Instead, we take the time to listen, observe, and let each horse show us who they are. Once trust is established, the transformation happens naturally — not through force, but through understanding.

Our goal

Our mission at Hawkez Haven is to ensure that every rescue horse finds their person — someone they can truly connect with and trust. We are dedicated to giving each horse a guaranteed lifelong home where they will be properly cared for, loved, and never let down again by the humans who promised to protect them.

Sadly, too many horses end up neglected or abandoned when people decide that caring for them is “too hard.” At Hawkez Haven, we work hard to break that cycle by carefully matching our horses with responsible, experienced, and compassionate adopters who understand the commitment involved.

To help us ensure the best possible outcomes, all potential adopters are required to provide four references — such as a veterinarian, farrier, grazing landowner, or other equine professionals — to confirm that our horses will continue receiving the care and respect they deserve.

Every horse deserves a forever home, and at Hawkez Haven, we make sure they find exactly that. 💚
