Kahu Rock is a 10-year-old Thoroughbred gelding who truly lives up to his name — a solid, dependable rock and a once-in-a-lifetime partner. Quiet, sensible, and kind-natured, he’s the definition of a reliable all-rounder.
Kahu is relaxed and easy to have around, both under saddle and in the paddock. He also has the cheekiest character at times too and is happy whether you want to cruise or have the wind in your hair with whichever one of his smooth gaits he strides in each and every single time. He’s happy ridden alone or in company, and he thrives being part of a herd. Because he’s such a social horse, he will only be placed in a home with other horses — either grazed together or in sight of one another. He’s the ultimate “babysitter,” calm and gentle with all horses — mares, geldings, youngsters, or older companions alike.

🌿 His Journey
When Kahu arrived at Hawkez Haven: Second Chances, he was underweight, worm-ridden, and suffering from rain scald due to poor upkeep. His eyes were sunken, his coat dull, and he lacked energy or spark.
With time, quality feed, love, and dedicated care, Kahu began to blossom. About 5 weeks later, when his paddock mates returned from an outing, he galloped joyfully from one end of the paddock to the other, calling out in excitement — a moment that showed his fighting spirit and joy for life. That was the day we saw the real Kahu Rock — strong, grateful, and full of heart.

🏇 Training & Temperament
Kahu has been slowly and gently reintroduced to work, showing willingness, patience, and loyalty to his riders and handlers. He has:

· Proven himself as a bombproof lead-rein horse for children, patient and tolerant with beginner riders.
· Shown potential for dressage with his naturally balanced frame and rhythm.
· Raced hurdles in his past, with placings including 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
· Been excellent on public roads (50-100km) with all types of traffic including stock trucks, tractors plus boy racer cars who showed no respect, giving no space with speed and a bonus, he doesn't get phased passing paddocked livestock, traffic or new environments. Proving reliability on public roads, remaining calm.
· Education in ground work, understanding and learning boundaries, manners and patience going far in any level of schooling.

Kahu is eager to please, doesn’t take him much to become focused and safe – an ideal partner for teens, adults returning to riding, or riders looking to go further. He will definitely take you where you need and want to be.
He’s the type of horse who focuses on his rider, doesn’t pick up bad habits from others, and gives his full attention to the job at hand. Whether for a teen, returning adult, or confident beginner looking to grow, Kahu is a horse you can trust.

· Strong, healthy hooves — only requires routine trims in winter and front shoes during summer.
· Never had abscesses or known soundness issues.
· Easy to worm, float, tie, and handle for the farrier.
· Keeps weight well when in good condition on top hay and quality pasture.
He was previously on a high-quality feed plan to rebuild muscle, topline, and coat shine, including products like Hygain- Showtorque, Fibre Ezy, CopRice Cool Conditioner, Pink Mash, Coco Mash, Gum Nuts, Minerals, Salt Blocks, and Smart Timothy blends — all of which helped bring him back to full health.
