Before & After Arrival
Each horse at Hawkez Haven has their own history, needs, and pace. Updates are shared when appropriate, with respect for their process.
Khan
Meet Khan — he arrived with a painful injury to the bulb of his front hoof.
He still has a little healing left to go, but through every bandage change and every check-up, he remained kind, patient, and gentle.
Behind his big, goofy personality is a true soft giant who trusted us right from the beginning. Watching him relax, settle, and feel safe has been one of our favourite parts of his journey.
Rip
Meet Rip. He’s been with us for four years going on 5, and when he first arrived, he was in rough shape, physically and emotionally.
Over the following five months, with steady care, routine, and kindness, Rip slowly rebuilt his strength, confidence, and trust.
He taught us patience, and in return, he gave us loyalty.
Rip is a reminder that when horses are given time, respect, and consistency, they learn they’re safe again.
Electra
This is Miss Electra — our 6-year-old mare who is still fairly new to Hawkez Haven.
She arrived with rainscald and an injured hind leg, and although she needed gentle handling at first, she has been incredibly trusting with us. Even when something caused her discomfort, she tried her best.
With good feed, treatment, and calm handling, Electra has gained weight, healed beautifully, and is already looking incredible. Her confidence — and her shine — are coming back.
Kahu
When Kahu first arrived, it wasn’t just his weight that worried us — it was the way he had almost stopped caring. He would stand quietly, breathing, nibbling a little grass… letting the pushier horses take his feed and just walking away. Watching that broke my heart — not because he was “difficult,” but because he looked like he had given up. So we went slowly. Small feeds, often. Minerals. Skin and coat care. Quiet handling. Time. And then — little changes started to appear. A bigger appetite.
More weight. A soft shine across his coat. A sparkle returning to his eye. Before long, there were zoomies in the paddock again and that was the moment I knew he was choosing life again.
Today, Kahu isn’t just healthier — he is emotionally present, connected, and incredibly special to us.
He is one of Hawkez Haven’s true “second chances,” and we are so proud of how far he has come. 🤍✨
